TACC recently honored its latest cohort of Susan Fratkin Scholarship recipients, welcoming seven outstanding Code@TACC alumni and their families to celebrate the program’s fourth year. The scholarship supports promising students with higher education expenses and is made possible through private donors and CASC, the fund’s premier sponsor.
The scholarship bears the name of Sue Fratkin, who served as CASC Executive Director for 26 years and is widely recognized for her contributions to HPC workforce development. CASC Executive Director Kathryn Kelley noted that “Sue Fratkin didn’t just support the research computing community — she shaped it, one relationship and one emerging leader at a time.”
This year’s recipients will pursue studies in fields ranging from Computer Science and Cybersecurity to Biochemistry and Business Administration at institutions including St. Edwards University, Grambling State University, Mount Holyoke, and Clark Atlanta University.
TACC’s Code@TACC camps have reached more than 700 students since 2015, many from economically underserved communities. The Fratkin Scholarship extends that commitment by helping alumni turn early STEM exposure into lasting educational opportunity.
